Monthly Community Townhall Meeting
We had a great turn out for last month’s Community Townhall Meeting and are looking forward to next weekend’s meeting. Mark your calendars, bring a neighbor, spread the word, and bring some goodies to share!!
April 14th 3:00 to 5:00
Cumberland Community Center
11 Davenport Road in Cumberland, VA
CCLA’s Leadership Team will update attendees on the status of County Waste’s (Greenridge) proposed mega landfill and avenues being taken to put a stop to the 1200 acre multi-state mega-dump. The team will also share about the local legal case recently filed, partnering efforts, and about County Waste’s transfer station plan in Appomattox county. Followed by fellowship with friends and neighbors with goodies.
Fundraising – Donuts, Donations, Craft Fair
Our next delicious fund raising effort will be Krispy Kreme donuts! During the Community Townhall Meeting we will be selling Kristy Kreme donuts to be picked up during our May 4th event! Forms to order donuts will be posted on the website and provided during our next Community Townhall meeting.
Our May 4th event will be a Yard Sale and Craft Fair! We will have vendor spaces for rent and will be accepting yard sale donations.
This Tuesday, April 9th – Board of Supervisors Meeting
Citizen involvement is vital in stopping the proposed mega landfill – that means you, it means me, it means us! Attending the Board of Supervisors meetings is a huge part of that involvement. Sad to say, if we had been attending these meetings and “watching”…we could be working to build out county up! Instead, we are fighting to stop trash from 500 miles being brought into our state and are county.
Please attend this Tuesday. Look over the agenda, packet, and consider why some of the changes are being suggested. We have a voice. We have a presence. We need to be present and to be heard.
Cumberland County Landfill ALERT!’s Mission and Vision
Cumberland County Landfill ALERT! (CCLA) is a group of concerned citizens who are united in their opposition to the proposed County Waste’s/Green Ridge Recycling and Disposal Facility plans to site a Mega Multi-State Landfill in eastern Cumberland County.
CCLA will conduct community outreach activities, grow membership, establish action plans and mobilization efforts, partner with activist organizations and nonprofits, establish working relationships with state agencies, lobby political leaders, gather and present scientific research, reports and news stories, conduct media campaigns, obtain legal expertise and pursue fundraising opportunities all in order to preserve the history, clean air and water, safe roadways, the rural way of life, culture and long established community of Pine Grove.
